Best co-parenting apps in 2026, compared by what each does best

"Co-parenting app" covers two different kinds of product. Plan builders help you write the parenting plan. Communication apps help you live it afterwards, with a message log, shared calendar and expense record. This page compares the five apps parents ask about most, by the job each does best, so you can pick the right one for where you are.

We make CoParent Navigator, so read our entry with that in mind. Competitor details were last reviewed July 2026; features and prices change, and each app's site has the current version.

How to choose a co-parenting app

Four questions sort most families into the right tool.

Do you have a parenting plan yet?
If not, start with a plan builder. A messaging app cannot tell you what a complete agreement needs to cover, and every schedule, holiday and expense rule you set up later comes from the plan.
Is the conflict high enough that you need a record?
Then a communication app with an unalterable message log matters. OurFamilyWizard and TalkingParents are the names courts and attorneys recognise; AppClose covers the same ground with a broader toolkit.
Is the schedule the hard part?
A visual calendar and a parenting-time calculator help you compare 2-2-3, week-on/week-off and alternating-weekend patterns. Custody X Change is built around that; CoParent Navigator has free schedule and parenting-time tools too.
Who pays, and for how long?
Communication apps are subscriptions, some billed per parent, for as long as you co-parent. A plan builder is a short project. Check whether a price covers one parent or both, and whether a lawyer or mediator can join without another seat.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best co-parenting app in 2026?
There is no single best app, because the apps do different jobs. For building the parenting plan itself, CoParent Navigator. For a court-recognised message and expense record, OurFamilyWizard. For high-conflict communication with recorded calls, TalkingParents. For all-in-one day-to-day coordination, AppClose. For custody schedules and parenting-time math, Custody X Change. Most families use a plan builder once and a communication app for years.
What is parenting plan software?
Parenting plan software helps separated or divorcing parents write the agreement itself: custody and decision-making, the parenting-time schedule, holidays, communication rules, expenses, travel, relocation and how changes are handled. CoParent Navigator and Custody X Change are plan builders. OurFamilyWizard, TalkingParents and AppClose are communication apps for living the plan afterwards, not for writing it.
What is the cheapest co-parenting app?
It depends on whether you need ongoing messaging. Communication apps are paid subscriptions, and some charge each parent separately. CoParent Navigator is free to start, a complete parenting plan is a one-time $19.99, and the ongoing platform is $180 a year with the co-parent, mediator and attorney you invite included. TalkingParents and AppClose offer fee waivers for financial hardship and domestic-violence situations.
Do I need both a parenting plan tool and a communication app?
Usually yes, at different times. Build and finalise the plan first, then use a communication app to keep the message log, shared calendar and expense record while you live it. One gets the agreement right; the other keeps you organised afterwards.
Are co-parenting apps required by courts?
No app is required everywhere, but judges and attorneys often ask high-conflict parents to use a communication app with an unalterable record, and some orders name one. A parenting plan tool is used before that stage, to prepare what you bring to mediation or to your attorney.

CoParent Navigator is an educational and drafting tool, not a law firm, and does not provide legal advice. Product names belong to their owners.
